How much is X or Y?

It really depends on each individual project. The needs of a small business brand identity and website may require very different things than a medium or large business. With that in mind, projects can easily range from $1,500 to $10,000+ depending on services required and a variety of other factors. Send me an email and I’ll happily work with you to find out your needs, what I can do for you, and produce an estimate.

Can you take a look at our site/branding and tell us what you think?

Sure, we can do a consultation so I can understand what the pain points are and come up with a few recommendations. Shoot me an email here and let’s talk.

Such and such is cheaper. Can you match them?

No. Design is not a commodity.

“A commodity has full or partial fungibility; that is, the market treats its instances as equivalent or nearly so with no regard to who produced them.”
–Wikipedia

Design services have widely varying differences in quality across the market like music players, computers, airlines, restaurants, and cars.

“Items such as stereo systems […] have many aspects of product differentiation, such as the brand, the user interface and the perceived quality. The demand for one type of stereo may be much larger than demand for another.”
–Wikipedia

Designers choose their clients just as clients choose their designers, it’s up to the designer to work with those that find value in his/her skill.

How long will the project take to complete?

This also varies widely based on project specifics, but as a starting point I try to set aside a minimum of 4-5 weeks for a brand identity project and 3-4 months for a static multi-page site. See my process for what stages are typically involved in a project from start to finish.

I need such and such yesterday. Can you start now?

Maybe! It depends on what my current workload is, but I’m always happy to talk with you to see if I can help.

What does the process involve?

You can view a visualization of my typical process here. UX and brand identity projects require different things, but one thing is certain across the board: design is the end result of research, analysis, and more research. To make sure that I gain the best understanding of your needs, market, and customers, my research ensures I have a solid foundation on which to make my design and strategy decisions to give you the best result possible.

Can you leave out X step and Y step to make this faster?

No. Just as a construction team wouldn’t skip on the foundation of a house to build the wide-open kitchen and spacious walk-in closets, a designer cannot skip on the foundation of knowledge and understanding of your business in order to create the best design solution.

Can you make my design look like this?

That’s one way to make my job easier, but when has fitting-in given a business the advantage in their market? Great companies like Apple, Southwest Airlines, and Google didn’t start out by aiming to be like someone else. It’s much more rewarding to have something that you can call your own, knowing it was crafted specifically for you.

Can you help with printing?

Sure! I don’t do printing, but I can recommend services I use. If you’d like, I can handle transferring files to the printers and making sure that the intended product is what you will receive.

How do you accept payment?

For small projects (< $3,000), I require 25% down before work begins. For larger projects ($3,000+), I require 50% down before work begins. Complete payment is required before final hand-off of source files and assets.

I can accept credit cards through PayPal, checks, or cash.

Can you recommend other graphic designers?

Absolutely. I know many skilled people with differing talents and passions in the industry, I’d be glad to set you up with someone that can further assist you with your needs.
